My Musings
A lot can happen in two weeks.
It seems like yesterday that I sent out the last newsletter. I don’t know about you, but the last two weeks in both my professional and personal life have been a blur. At my day job (which I don’t talk about much), we had a visit from a national organization which required a lot of advance preparation and also some last minute, late night data crunching.
At home, my oldest son is now in college and my youngest is a junior in high school. With the world slowly trending in the “normal-ish” direction, my kids are making up for lost time in terms of activities canceled or curtailed over the last two years. This weekend we are starting the first of several mini-birthday celebrations for my youngest son.
As for me, I’ve been plugging away on edits for Book 2 and writing Book 3, but about two weeks ago, I had an unexpected visit to the emergency room and some follow up doctor appointments since. Don’t worry, I’m fine (I just need to focus on my diet and exercise again). There’s nothing like sitting in the ER to help put things in perspective. If you’ve ever been to the ER, you know there’s a lot of waiting involved. However, when writers have free time, they write… so while I was there, I cranked out my daily word count for Book 3!
The above is not about me complaining, making excuses, or wishing things were different. I don’t. A year ago, I hadn’t published a book or started this newsletter. I had just started working on my edits for Duel of Destiny and Pax Machina and was only a few weeks in to the writing Mechs and Machinations. I wouldn’t change anything (except for the worldwide pandemic part). I guess my main point is, no matter what you’re doing, where you find yourself, or how crazy (or boring) life is, don’t forget to smile and take time to enjoy every minute!
Mechhaven Missives
- Edits for Mechs and Machinations are proceeding well. I should be done with them this weekend, which will give me a few days to do a final read through and to work on the formatting.
- The official release date of Mechs and Machinations is October 25th. It will be released in ebook format on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. There’s additional formatting that needs to be done to get the cover ready for the paperback version which can’t happen until all the final edits are complete. I’m hoping the paperback version will be ready very close to that date as well.
- Quick FYI.. during the release week of October 25th, which is 5 days before the next newsletter, I’ll be sending out a few additional emails to promote the launch of Book 2. After the launch slows down, I’ll go back to the regular bi-weekly newsletters.
- The writing for Mechhaven Book 3 is progressing nicely. Since I started it in September, I’ve hit my daily word count goals all but two days. As mentioned above, I even hit my goals while in the ER! Of the two days I missed, one was work-related where I was literally working for I don’t know how many hours straight and the other was just a day full of school-related activities for my son.
- I estimate I’m about 40% done with the first draft of Book 3 and I’m getting to some really exciting parts! I want to complete it by the end of the year, but I may be a little crazy and push that up to mid-December, so I can have some downtime during the holidays. We’ll see, but so far, so good.
- What about the title and cover reveal for Book 3? Keep reading until the end.
Mechs and Machinations (Mechhaven Book 2)
What can I say about Mechs and Machinations? Read it! It’s good! 🙂
Seriously though, I enjoyed writing this book and I hope you enjoy reading it. If you think things were going to get back to normal on Mechhaven after Pax Machina, think again. Just as things start to get back to normal, there are new challenges and new enemies to deal with!
The reactions I’ve received from those who have read it so far are very good. I don’t want to give anything away, but here are some quick tidbits:
- It picks up about six months after the events of Pax Machina
- Some characters are handling the aftermath of Pax Machina better than others
- New friends and enemies are introduced
- Expands the Mechhaven universe
- Helps set up the rest of the series
Minor Spoilers if you haven’t finished Pax Machina)
Some wounds never heal. Galactic machinations wait for no one.
The Battle of Mechhaven shocked the galaxy. As high-ranking representatives from the four governments descend upon Mechhaven to honor the fallen, the surviving defenders must put their healing on hold to deal with demanding allies, unexpected challenges, and new enemies.
A secret mission calls several heroes back into service. Unexpected refugees threaten to drag Mechhaven into conflict with the Corporate Protectorate, which the rest of the galaxy wants no part of. With some of her best fighters off-world, should Misty lead the mechs into another battle? What are the consequences if she doesn’t? What other machinations are at play?
Mechs and Machinations (Mechhaven Book 2) continues and expands the epic space opera, sci-fi adventure, started in Pax Machina (Mechhaven Book 1). If you love sci-fi adventure, space opera and 1980s style anime, you’ll love Mechs and Machinations!
Available on October 25, 2021.
Reminder
I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be participating in my first “live” signing event in Las Vegas on November 12, 2021. If you live in the area or feel like traveling, below is just a small sample of the authors of all genres that will be taking part.
I now know that I’ll be grouped at a table with 8-10 other new authors. I’m sure we’ll be taking turns staffing the table, so if you’re interested in meeting me or getting a book signed, please let me know and we can make arrangements to meet. I’ll keep you posted on additional details in the next few newsletters.
For more information, join the Vegas Author Signing 2021 Facebook Group.
Promotions
There are millions of books on Amazon. If you add in the other retailers such as Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, there are even more. Being “seen” is a challenge for veteran and new authors alike. The promotions below are authors working with other authors to help promote each other to their readers.
Some books featured below are short stories or novellas, some are compete novels, some are on sale, and others are free to read if you’re subscribed to Kindle Unlimited. I truly appreciate the time you take to support these authors. It’s great if you can click on the links, but even better if you find something you like and download it. Please take a look at the selections below. Maybe you’ll discover your new favorite author!

Mechhaven Book 3 Cover and Title Reveal!
Thanks for reading through the rest of the newsletter and waiting until the end.
Once Mechs and Machinations goes live, the Amazon listing for Book 3 will be active as well. As promised in previous newsletters, I wanted to reveal the cover and title to you all first!
Mechhaven Book 3 will be called On Darkhaven Forged. You can see the cover below, but I bet you’ve already peeked by now!
This is another awesome cover by Jeff Brown. I’m so honored to be able to work with him on the covers for this series.
I can’t say anything about this book right now without spoiling parts of Mechs and Machinations. If I only had one word to describe On Darkhaven Forged, it would be “pivotal“.
The target release date for On Darkhaven Forged is June 2022, so you won’t have to wait too long after reading Mechs and Machinations to get the next installment of the Mechhaven saga!
What do you think? I’d love to hear your feedback!
