My Musings
Happy New Year! I As I mentioned in the last newsletter, my goal over the holidays was to wrap up the first draft of On Darkhaven Forged. I was able to do that as of Christmas Eve. Following that, I had over a week of rest and relaxation, the likes of which I haven’t experienced in a long time. It helped that we had a week or so of rainy weather in normally sunny SoCal, so it was a great time to hunker down, read, and watch movies. I hope you were able to spend time with those who are special to you and/or do some of the things that bring you joy as well!
Now that vacation is over, it’s time to get back into the regular routine. The kids are back in school and I just finished my first full week back to work at my regular job. I feel refreshed and ready to take on the world! Who’s with me?
This weekend is the time we traditionally spend taking down the Christmas lights, tree, other decorations, and put the house back to its normal state. We also purge a little to make room for anything new we may have gained during the holidays, though in the next few months we may need to do some additional purging to really get things organized.
Mechhaven Missives
- I finished the first draft of On Darkhaven Forged on 12/24/2021. It ended up being 101,388 words. My books tend to grow during revision as I add details and fill in gaps, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the final word count ends up being around 105,000-110,000 words.
- As I had planned, once I finished, I took a complete week off and didn’t look or even think much about the book until 01/02/2022.
- I started the editing and revision process on 01/02/2022 and have gone through about five chapters so far and hope to make it through another four or five this weekend. My goal is to make two complete passes through the book before sending it to my editor for his review.
- I plan to let some alpha readers take a look at it soon and will be looking for some beta readers to read it when I get a little further along. If this interests you, send me a message. I’ll have more info regarding joining the beta team in the next newsletter.
- From 12/14 through 12/18, I ran a free promotion on Pax Machina and Mechs and Machinations. The promotion was very successful. Pax Machina climbed to the rank of #2 or #3 in three different categories on Amazon (Galactic Empire Science Fiction eBooks, Military Science Fiction (Kindle Store), Space Opera Science Fiction (Kindle Store)) and to #138 in the whole “Free in Kindle Store”! Mechs and Machinations also got to the rank of #13 or #14 in the same categories. Thank you for supporting me in this effort. It was a nice way to start the holidays. I also learned a lot and will apply it to my launch of On Darkhaven Forged in June!
