My Musings-Attack of the Taxes!

I normally try to get my newsletter out as early as possible on the days they’re scheduled to come out. This week was no exception. I had every intention of doing that with this newsletter. Since I had a few days off this week, I even started laying out the newsletter two days ago. I had a brief story planned about aphids attacking my new GreenStalk planter. Instead, something even more dreadful than aphids happened. TAXES!

I had an appointment scheduled for noon on Saturday, and while I thought I had everything prepared, as the appointment drew closer, I realized there was far more documentation needed than I expected.

Over the last decade or so I’ve been completing my own taxes and everything has gone well enough, however, the process has become sufficiently complex that my wife and I decided it would be best to get a professional involved to make sure I don’t screw anything up.

When doing taxes at home, all your documents are at your fingertips, or if you can’t find something, you can take your time and add it to your return at your leisure. When you have an appointment with a tax preparer, you need to have all your documents pre-sent or have everything ready to take with you. In the end it came down to the wire and I had several marathon sessions of pulling documents together, including a late night last night and an early start this morning. Ultimately, I pulled everything together… except for a few things our tax preparer asked me to follow-up on. It’s nice to have our tax return mostly done as the filing deadline approaches, and with any luck (fingers crossed), I’ll be able to wrap up the requested follow-up in the next day or two!

Mechhaven Missives

In the special email I sent out this week I announced that On Darkhaven Forged was in the hands of my editor. I just heard back from him that he’ll be starting to work on it this coming week!

Last week, before the tax chaos started, I began a short story set in the Mechhaven universe. I can’t talk much about it now, but hopefully soon!

I started some research on a couple of topics that I’ll need to know more about when I write Mechhaven Book 4.

Duel of Destiny turns one!

Duel of Destiny, the prequel novella to Pax Machina turns one on April 10th!

I wrote DOD after finishing Pax Machina, as a way to introduce readers to the Mechhaven universe. I enjoyed the shorter format and learned a lot while writing it. Most of you reading this newsletter have subscribed as a result of signing up to read this novella through StoryOrigin or BookFunnel. I hope you enjoyed Duel of Destiny and have gone on to enjoy the other books in the Mechhaven series.
