My Musings
It has been a busy Spring so far for the Sorber household. This morning was no different. We got off to an early start by taking one kid to an impromptu Saturday math class (I’m sure all the students were super excited about that) and the other one driving to prep for their driver’s license test. I made it back in one piece and we managed to complete several errands in the process. All-in-All, not a bad morning. Now, if I can take the dogs for a walk, everyone will be happy!
I’ve been plugging away on wrapping up Mechhaven 3 and continue working on Mechhaven 4. Please see the details in Mechhaven Missives below. While there’s always a bit of anxiety as I’m wrapping up a book, I’m also super excited to share the story with all of you. Soon, very soon!
Last weekend, my wife, son, and I went to watch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We enjoyed it, as we usually enjoy the movies we spend the time (and money) to go see in the theater. My only real complaint was that so much of the plot was revealed in the trailers and marketing promos.
Most of the time when my family starts watching a new anime series, it has either finished or is well-established with several seasons to catch up on, so binging it is pretty fun. For the first time in a long time, we found a series that just came out and we’re watching it week by week as it comes out. The series is called Spy x Family, and it recently premiered on Crunchyroll. There are currently 6 episodes that have been posted online. This show is about a spy, an assassin, and a telepathic orphan that must pose as a loving family to infiltrate an elite prep school to accomplish a mission. Only the kid knows the truth about everyone’s identity. So far, it’s been a great show and my whole family is watching it together… even my oldest son, who rarely gets into anime. I highly recommend the series. If you end up watching it, let me know what you think.
Mechhaven Missives
- I have completed reviewing the changes suggested by my editor.
- I have a handful of items I need to check and update throughout the text. Once I’m done with that, I’ll start the formatting process in a program called Vellum and do a final read through to make sure the formatting is correct.
- In terms of Book 4, I’m currently at 11,500 words. I had to scale back my daily word count to work on finalizing Book 3 and due to some school-related activities I’ve had to ferry my son to and from. I expect the daily word count to increase quite a bit once Book 3 is uploaded to Amazon at the end of the month.
- I put the short story I’m working on hold until Book 3 is out. This is okay, I have a good start and I don’t have to finish until August.
- Stay tuned for the next newsletter for the title and cover reveal of Mechhaven Book 4!

The Martian invasion at the start of the twentieth century has been well documented, but one story has never been told.
Amy’s comfortable life is shattered when the Martians attack. Forced to flee the burning town of Woking, she can’t prevent her husband George from vanishing into the night on a foolish errand. With no idea if he will ever return, and fearing for her unborn child, she sets out to try and find him among the tidal wave of terrified people.
When Ella, an orphaned refugee, begs her for help, Amy promises to find her grandparents. Unable to reach them, she ends up working in a field hospital tending to the injured and dying victims of the Martian assault. Supplies are running dry, the army wants to commandeer the place for their own wounded, and more desperate souls arrive every hour.
Meanwhile the Martian destruction draws ever closer.
“a terrific addition to H.G Wells’ iconic book and a must read for fans of The War of The Worlds.” – Goodreads Reviewer

Ancient machine intelligences. Resurrected species with no memories of the past. Creatures composed of gravity strings. What is hidden in the void between galaxies?
Tapache, a machine intelligence with great power, has revived the Roranian people from their derelict remains. It has gifted them the Great Ship to voyage through space, and given them a purpose: to discover the truth about a weapon capable of unthinkable devastation.
An unexpected attack, followed by hundreds of years in stasis, scuppers those plans. Hope seems lost for a small group of Roranian survivors, until something far greater draws them in: a megastructure beyond comprehension.
The megastructure is far from safe. There are incumbent species that already lay their claim, all with secrets of their own, and a strangely smart information network that exists where it has no right.
Was Tapache lying?
