I’m a week away from heading to 20Booksto50K Las Vegas. Packing will begin shortly and I’m making final preparations for my author signing table. I’ve also been practicing my selection for the live author reading. I’m developing even more respect for audiobook narrators who perform books for a living!
Change… some people love it, others hate it. I’m generally pro-change, as long as it makes sense and makes existing processes more efficient. I’ve been making some changes in my life over the last month or so, particularly to my diet, which has had some pleasant benefits.
First, my allergies have become much more tolerable. They are at the point now that I no longer need to take multiple daily allergy meds. Second, my asthma, which was getting pretty rough in early September, has all but disappeared. I’m hoping this is a permanent change. Third, I’ve lost a few pounds… not as many as I’d like, but if I stay the course, I’m sure they’ll start dropping off pretty soon. I’ll just have to navigate the holidays very carefully! The good news is my clothes are already looser and fit better. If I continue to have success, I’ll do a separate write up about my current diet and routine.
Another benefit of my new routine is that I’m sleeping better, so I’m waking up earlier and with more energy. Since I’ve been having trouble finding time and motivation to write in the evenings, I switched things up. In the morning, my mind is fresh and clear, so I changed my writing time to 5:30am to 6:30am. This seems to be working well so far. I’d like to get a little more time, but if I can get a solid hour in the morning on the weekdays, I’ll be happy. Then, I can catch up with some extra hours during the weekends.
Have you made any changes in your life recently? Or are you planning to anytime soon? Let me know.
Mechhaven Missives
- The changes in my morning routine have resulted in several productive days of writing in the new Mechhaven novella. I feel like I’m building momentum and hope to finish by mid-November.
- Regardless of whether I finish the novella in November, I’ll getting back to work on Mechhaven Book 5 when I return from 20Books Las Vegas. I can’t wait to dive back into the story.
- If you’ve finished Rally Point, or at least made it through Chapter 8, you can check out “The Hub” some bonus/deleted scenes that were in the first draft of the book but that I removed to increase the pace of the story. I think the scenes are fun and they help fill in some details of events that otherwise happen offscreen, but they’re not critical to your enjoyment of Rally Point. These scenes are free and are only available to readers of this newsletter. If you decide to read them, please be sure to read the introduction first.
