Greetings,
We’re heading in to the fourth week of August. It’s amazing how quickly time flies! For me this time of year brings memories of Back to School season, and previews/announcements for new Fall TV lineups. Most importantly this was usually the time of year we found out what new Saturday morning cartoons would be coming out and which of our favorites would be returning. It was kind of like Christmas, but earlier!
With the network TV system in decline, we get new shows year-round and we can binge them (or not) depending on their release schedule. To be honest, probably because of when I grew up, I prefer the once a week release schedule for most shows. I like having the time to ponder the ramifications of each episode and the anticipation that builds until the release of the next one.
All of that being said, I’ve seen a number of things recently that have me looking forward to the next few months.

- EW recently released some photos from their upcoming Wheel of Time series. I can’t wait to see a full trailer. I hope they have faith in the source material and only change what is needed to make it fit the visual medium. I bought and started Robert Jordan’s Eye of the World when it first came out. It took me a few tries to get through it, but once I did I fell in love with the series. I’m sure I’ll talk more about this series, both book and TV as time goes on.
- The full trailer for the new adaptation of Dune was released a little while ago. I can say the first teaser trailer didn’t excite me, but the new full trailer has me aching to revisit the world of Arrakis. I started Frank Herbert’s Dune in the 7th grade, when my reading life really took off. It took me several attempts to get through it, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Many years later I finished the rest of the series and some of it is good and some of it is bizarre. I liked some of the follow-up books by Frank Herbert, Jr. and Keven J. Anderson.
- I just saw a new trailer for Foundation from Apple TV+ and it looks intriguing. Again, this trailer is much better than the first teaser. The show looks interesting. Full disclosure, I’ve never read Issac Asimov’s Foundation. When I was a younger, more voracious reader it was always a series I saw, thought about reading, but always found something more exciting. I’ve downloaded Foundation on my Kindle and my goal is to finish it before the series premieres.
- As for TV shows, I’m a recent convert to Ted Lasso. I finished the first season and one episode of season two.
- I also started season three of Titans. I’m three episodes in and its going some places I didn’t expect.
- My family and I are working our way through the most recent season of My Hero Academia. Fun show, we enjoy it a lot.
What about you? What are you excited about? What cool stuff have you been watching or reading? Be sure to let me know!
(Bonus points if it’s Pax Machina or Mechhaven related!!!)
Mechhaven Missives
- Just in case anyone missed it… I released a new novella this week. Unexpected Contact is a exciting story set in the Mechhaven universe and is a follow-up to Duel of Destiny. If you haven’t ordered it for $0.99 or checked it out on Kindle Unlimited, this weekend is the perfect time!
- Mechs and Machinations (Mechhaven Book Two) is off to the editor! He’ll take a look at it and get back to me with his corrections/suggestions by the end of September. This will put us right on track for a late October release. If you liked Pax Machina, I think you’re going to love Mechs and Machinations!
- Last friday I met with the artist (Jeff Brown) who does the covers for the main series books (Pax Machina, Mechs and Machinations, etc…) to discuss the cover for Book Three. If the final cover is anything like the concept he sketched out on our Zoom call, you’re going to be impressed. I can’t wait to share the new cover and the title for Book Three with you later this fall. I’ll share the title and cover with this newsletter first!
- I came across this YouTube video the other day about an Antarctic greenhouse experiment. This totally reminded me of Misty’s Aquaponics Module in Pax Machina. Enjoy!
