Here’s the latest Mechhaven News:
- This weekend I’m making the final push on my second pass of edits before On Darkhaven Forged (Mechhaven Book 3) goes to the editor. This includes writing an additional chapter to fill in some details on one character’s story arc.
- Once Book 3 is off to my editor I’ll resume plotting Book 4.
- Before starting Book 4, I hope to finish a novella that I started last year and to write a short story to submit to an upcoming anthology. Both related to Mechhaven. More news on those stories in future newsletters.
- The next several newsletters will focus on the upcoming release of On Darkhaven Forged, you can pre-order now or wait for its release in June.
- If all goes well I’ll start writing Book 4 in mid to late April, with an expected December 2022 release.
Fun Times:
- I don’t talk about my day job too much in this newsletter. It’s one of those jobs that’s always busy. However, a confluence of internal, state, and federal project deadlines created a perfect storm to keep me glued to my chair and desk way more than normal over the last few months. Culminating in an insanely busy week last week.
- To celebrate the passing (and meeting) of the deadlines, I took my kids to TFCON in Burbank. TF stands for Transformers, of course, which has been my youngest son’s favorite franchise since he was old enough to watch cartoons and play with toys.
- It was a nice small show, not too crowded. We were only there for one day, but we attended a panel on writing for animation, and one on the ins and outs of voice acting for animation. Both were very interesting.
Other Fun Tidbits:
- We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday. I cooked my annual meal of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and onions. With my dinner, I drank a Smithwick’s Red Ale (one of my favorites!). And I tried a Guinness with Nitro Cold Brew Coffee. I’ll classify that one as dessert. It was so smooth and decadent.
- An update to the saga of the GreenStalk planter… check out the picture below. As you can see, the plants, particularly the lettuce, which was originally dragged around the yard by my dogs, are doing quite well. Looks like I’m having salad for lunch this weekend!
I had a much needed day off yesterday (as did my wife). Ideally, the day off was supposed to be to celebrate our anniversary and our son’s birthday, but we had a bunch of errands to run, so it ended up being a very busy day. We visited my oldest son at the culinary academy he attends. As part of the curriculum, the students run an actual restaurant! Here’s a pic of him taking my order. He did a great job, and the food was great.

This week I have two featured authors for you. These authors are sharing my book in their newsletters, too. Your support is always appreciated!

by Shane Shepherd
Win’s crew barely survived… now they need to limp back to Earth and eliminate the new threat against humanity.
After narrowly escaping death, Win and his crew know they need to get back to Earth to save lives. Before they’ve had time to recover from the previous battle, they leap into another. Win must put aside his reservations and lead his people if they’re to have any chance of survival.
But how do they fight a danger far more advanced than they are? A danger that lurks in wait for them to show any sign of weakness. A darkness willing to rip humanity apart… unless Win and his crew can stop them.
