My Musings
I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Mine is just getting started as I sip my coffee and finish preparing this newsletter. Except for a few errands, this should be a fairly laid back weekend. After last weekend, which was packed with family activities, it will be a welcome change. I’m not sure where April went, but for me, it flew by in a blink of an eye!
With April wrapping up, May is staring me down as it approaches. We’re basically a month away from the release of my third book (see below in Mechhaven Missives for more details). This is both exciting and terrifying. The anticipation is exciting because I’ll get to release something I’ve been working on since February 2021 and I’ll finally get to share it with others besides my editor and beta-readers. That’s also terrifying as there is less than a month left to finish edits and the rest of the pre-launch steps one should do when releasing a new book.
While I’m getting ready for the release of On Darkhaven Forged, I have embarked on a journey decidedly less fun and exciting… I went on a diet — more than a diet, really. I’m doing a complete health reset and overhaul! Yes, I finally decided it was time to lose this COVID cushion I put on during the last few years. I’ve lost weight before, so I know how to do it, but getting started is never fun. I just finished the first week of eating healthier and I’m seeing some results. The trick will be to continue the process long-term and avoid getting derailed by weekends, parties, and stress. I’ll also start adding in some exercise, movement, and make sure I’m getting enough sleep over the next few weeks. Wish me luck, I’m hoping that by focusing on my health, I’ll be even more productive at work, home, and in writing more books!
Mechhaven Missives
- As of last night, I’ve reviewed the edits suggested by my editor for 29 out of 38 (76%) chapters of On Darkhaven Forged.
- I expect to get through the rest of the chapters this week. This leaves me time for a quick final review and polish.
- I’ll start booking and setting up various promotions to make the most of the launch on June 1st.
- So far I’ve written two chapters, about 7,500 words of Mechhaven Book 4. It feels like I’m off to a great start. I’ll try to get a few thousand words in this weekend.
- I’m still working on a short story set in the Mechhaven universe and will switch between the two projects until I wrap it up.
- I’ll announce the title for Book 4 and reveal the cover in the May 28th newsletter. I can’t wait!

In the gritty future of the 36th century, a planet stands on the brink of war…

For the people Zona Nox, Terra is a myth. For James Terrin, the Shadow of Galis, it is just something the tinmen say.

With an asteroid headed for a devastated Earth in one direction, aliens who use warm-blooded creatures as breeding vessels in another, and a mutiny on his spaceship, Captain Hammish must act fast if he’s going to save humanity.
